| My adorable bride and I have recently returned from 4 nites at the Flaming Arrow and I'm pleased to report that it's everything we had expected and more. We'd never been to the Cherokee area before and wanted to find a spot that was reasonably priced with amenties (30 amp, water, sewer) for our new-to -us camper. Flaming Arrow easily met those basic requirements.
We pulled into the campground and followed the arrows to the office where we were met by the owner. She checked us in, then drove us around to see the available sites. That was a nice touch we thought because we'd made a selection sight unseen. She showed us 3 other sites, we picked one and set up.
Our site - B17 - was just lovely. Yes, it was up a hill but it is the mountains after all and was no real problem for us (we hike quite a bit). There was plenty of room to park and the site was spacious and private. We like that a lot. In our travels, we did see other campgrounds in the area and found them to be jam-packed. You could pass toast and jam between the RV's through the windows it was so tight. That's not the way we like to camp and thus began to feel even better about our choice.
Joni and Ralph could not have been nicer. They gave us directions to places we wanted to go (Kenny Loggins concert at the Casino), and also turned us on to prime trout fishing spots on the reservation.
The bathrooms were very clean, they post up the local paper and a lot of local events on a bulletin board, they have washer/dryer facilities and lots of places for kids to burn off a little steam. We didn't use the pool but it looked eminently useable too.
If you're a "camping hooligan" you probably don't want to stay here because the owners do take pride in their place and try too keep things orderly and peaceful. We respect that and in fact, prefer it so for the rest of you normal people, get your reservations and get campin'. You'll be glad you did.
And BTW, use Joni's directions to the campground. They'll save you a lot of time. |

| Pleasant and quiet visit ~ My family and I stayed three nights in one of the rustic cabins. It was simple and clean. The bathroom rooms were cleaner than most of the campgrounds we had been to on our trip. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If we pass through again, I would be happy to stay again. |

| I am currently staying in one of Fort Wilderness' rental travel trailers and they are falling apart... The roof leaks causing the ceiling inside to sag badly, they are poorly insulated so on cold nights with two 1500watt heaters wide open the temp never got above 66 degrees, the plumbing leaks and also freezes on cold nights, the breaker is constantly tripping 2 or 3 times a day, the trailer that I stay in was nasty when I moved in it and I had to clean it myself, the free WiFi always has problems with logging on and staying online, the RV park owner is always cranky and cantankerous with a bad attitude.
But on a positive note the Manager, her husband, their children and the assistant manager are all very pleasant nice and very respectful. The rent is also pretty reasonable for this area. And it is a good location to see the beautiful countryside.
Not a very accomadating place, but I'll stay for a bit longer because its affordable. |
