The Santa Monica Mountains are LA's big and beautiful backyard. The mountains rise above Los Angeles, widen to meet the curve of Santa Monica Bay and reach their apex in view of the ocean. Nearly 600 miles of trails snake through diverse terrain. On the Paramount Ranch, you can watch movies being made. The Santa Monica Mountains contains one of the largest undisturbed Mediterranean-type ecosystems in the world. Camping in developed campgrounds or in designated backcountry sites. |

U.S. 101 (Ventura Freeway) borders the mountains on the north, and CA 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) and the Pacific Ocean form the southern boundary. Access to most park areas is available on the many roads that cross the mountains between these two major highways.
