Chassis batteries keep going dead

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

My motorhome is on a Freightliner chassis and my chassis batteries keep going dead even though the coach is plugged into a 30am plug around the clock (while in storage).

There is obviously a draw on the batteries and for some reason, the house batteries are being charged but not the chassis.

Here’s what I discovered :

When I leave my chassis power on, the charger will charge both house and chassis batteries. I’m not sure if this is recommended but this is what I do while I’m spending the night in an RV Park or Campground. Now, when the coach is in storage, I turn off all power including the battery disconnects. I fire everything up once every few weeks and let it charge.

This works for me.

RV LEMON LAW

Know you’re RV lemon law rights : When you buy a new motorhome, you can always expect at least a few issues that will be in need of repair. The “getting the bugs out” period can last a couple of seasons depending on use. This is reasonable since a brand new RV can be sensitive to climatic conditions such as humidity and altitude. The motorhome needs to adjust to different conditions from the factory to your home. You’re warranty should cover the issues as they arise.

If you are having recurring problems with your RV, and these issues are either “not staying fixed” or if the coach has been in for repairs repeatedly and the problems never seem to get fixed, you may be eligible for the federal lemon law or your RV.

The RV lemon law will cover your motorhome, car, truck or otherwise. It may not matter how large or small the problem is, your RV is not able to be used while it is constantly in for service.

If you are thinking about using the RV lemon law, you’ll need to document everything that has happened. Include records of all telephone conversations, invoices, service records, and anything you can find that proves that your RV was not in service and for how long.

If you have a motorhome that falls into this category, you may want to consult a lemmon law attorny that has experience with RV’s. You may be eligible for a brand new motorhome.
