FLATBED TRAILER

flatbedSome RV owners prefer to use a flatbed trailer. This method offers all the benefits of a tow dolly and allows all four wheels to stay off the pavement while being towed.

Consider the following when choosing a flatbed trailer :

  • Weight – A flatbed trailer can weigh thousands When you combine the weight of your vehicle and the trailer, you may end up exceeding the towing capacity of your motorhome.
  • Reverse – It is difficult to back-up a motorhome with a trailer behind however, it can be done easier than a dolly or toad on a tow bar. Your backup cameras will be very useful.
  • Modifications – No modifications are required to the coach or toad. A trailer hitch and wiring on the motorhome is all that is required.
  • Convenience – Once you get to your destination, you’ll need to unload your vehicle from the trailer, then drive to the location where you will leave the trailer. Unload the trailer, then setup camp. These trailers are very heavy and usually can’t be maneuvered by hand.
  • Tires – You’ll need to make sure you have a spare tire for the trailer along with the correct wheel wrench and jack. If you get a flat tire on the trailer without these, you’ll need to unhook.
